When the extended community quarantine (ECQ) was imposed in Metro Manila, it was no surprise to see a jump in internet usage and mobile data. Within just the first month, time spent on WiFi networks rose by 63.3%, according to mobile analytics company Opensignal. Telco giant Smart reported a data traffic increase of 15% to 20%. Unfortunately, this surge of information is inevitably followed by misinformation, or what is commonly known as fake news.
