Duterte Trial Narrows to Unexplained Wealth as Banks Testify
The House prosecution dropped three of four impeachment articles against Vice President Sara Duterte, leaving a single unexplained-wealth charge as representatives of eight major banks were called to testify. Separately, GCash parent Mynt closed an oversubscribed initial public offering priced at ₱6.60 a share.
The House prosecution panel withdrew three of its four impeachment articles against Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, October 14, leaving a single charge of unexplained wealth and putting the transaction records of the country's largest banks at the center of a national corruption case.35 The Senate impeachment court, which sits as the jury in a Philippine impeachment trial, approved the withdrawal the same day the prosecution rested its case after 39 trial days.35 Representatives of Asia United Bank, Philippine Savings Bank, Metrobank, Security Bank, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Philippine National Bank, BDO Unibank and FWD Life Insurance were scheduled to appear at that day's hearing on Article 2, which covers allegations of unexplained wealth, financial disclosures and compliance with constitutional divestment rules.36
The financial evidence driving the remaining charge came from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), the government body that collects reports on suspicious money flows and investigates money laundering. Its executive director, Ronel Buenaventura, testified that the council had recorded ₱4.4 billion in covered and suspicious transactions involving Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio, after correcting earlier figures.36 A covered transaction is a large cash or bank movement that institutions must report to the AMLC as a matter of routine; a suspicious transaction is one that the reporting bank flags as unusual. Forensic financial analyst Alexander Cabrera told the court his review placed the couple's allegedly undeclared wealth at more than ₱817.87 million between 2022 and 2025.35 He also admitted that AMLC data did not appear in his report on the assets, a point raised in ABS-CBN News coverage on October 12.37
On the social side, the day's most-shared material was not a bank's own post but a roundup. A Facebook cheat sheet of iPhone 18 Pro midnight-launch freebies and credit-card installment offers, published October 14, drew 119 likes, 63 shares and 38 comments — more engagement than any single bank's branded post about the same two-day window.40 UnionBank's own offer post for the phone drew three love reactions and one like, with no comments.39 The gap between the aggregate post and the branded ones is the clearest signal in the social data: readers compared offers in one place rather than engaging with each bank's announcement.
Key themes
- Impeachment case narrows to one charge of unexplained wealth. Prosecutors withdrew Articles I, III and IV — covering misuse of ₱612.5 million in confidential and intelligence funds, bribery, and graft — leaving Article II, which alleges undeclared wealth and violations of divestment rules.35101 The panel said the decision followed a reassessment of evidence and public impatience with the proceedings.35
- Eight banks and one insurer were called to testify about client records. Asia United Bank, Philippine Savings Bank, Metrobank, Security Bank, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Philippine National Bank, BDO Unibank and FWD Life Insurance were scheduled to appear on October 14.36 Their testimony was expected to address financial records and transactions relevant to the proceedings, not allegations against the institutions themselves.36
- The AMLC's ₱4.4 billion figure is the largest number in the case. The council recorded covered and suspicious transactions involving Duterte and Carpio between 2007 and 2025, including 666 covered transactions of ₱500,000 or more and 55 suspicious transactions.38 Buenaventura told the court the reports do not themselves prove illegal activity and that he had no personal knowledge of the accounts.89
- A forensic analyst put undeclared wealth at ₱817.87 million, and a columnist said it could reach ₱1.5 billion. Cabrera examined more than 30 active bank accounts across eight banks belonging to Duterte and Carpio.2 Columnist Jarius Bondoc wrote that Cabrera called the ₱817.87 million figure conservative and that hidden wealth could approach ₱1.5 billion if ₱475 million in confidential funds and other questioned transactions were added.2
- Prosecutors questioned ₱41 million in cash withdrawals by Carpio in August 2024. Senator-Judge Francis Pangilinan asked about the timing: the withdrawals came six days after drug-related charges were filed against Carpio and about two weeks after Duterte resigned as education secretary on July 19, 2024.7 Cabrera said the withdrawals took about one hour and 13 minutes and seemed urgent because they resumed immediately after a lunch break.7
- GCash parent Mynt priced its initial public offering at ₱6.60 a share and closed an oversubscribed offer period. The deal could raise as much as ₱92.3 billion and rank as the largest listing on the Philippine Stock Exchange.1225 Retail investors could subscribe through the GCash app for as little as ₱660, or 100 shares, with allocation available in real time.1718
- The central bank adopted a new capital rule for operational risk, covering fraud and cyberattacks. Under Circular 1241, dated October 9, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas adopted the Basel III New Standardized Approach for computing how much capital banks must hold against losses from failed processes, human error, system breakdowns and external events.56102 Full implementation begins with the end-December 2027 reporting period.50
- Inflation risk from a severe El Niño could add up to 1.57 percentage points to headline inflation. Chinabank Research estimated that a strong El Niño could push consumer price growth past 8 percent in the fourth quarter, from 7.2 percent in September, already above the government's 2 to 4 percent target.49 The BSP governor said policymakers were preparing for the worst.80
How the narratives stack
Dominant. The impeachment trial's narrowing to a single unexplained-wealth charge dominated the day's news, and the bank angle is what makes it a banking story rather than only a political one. The prosecution rested after 39 trial days, the Senate court approved the withdrawal of three articles, and eight banks plus an insurer were called to testify about records tied to the Duterte and Carpio accounts.3536 Within the items captured here, this story drew the heaviest coverage: the Inquirer's report on the Carpios' shoe purchases alone carried an estimated ₱791,532 in advertising-equivalent value — the estimated cost of buying the same space as paid advertising — and a Philippine Star opinion column on the case carried ₱799,000.46101 The defense begins presenting evidence on November 9.35
Counter-narrative. The Duterte camp's public response ran against the prosecution's framing. Vice President Duterte challenged private prosecutor Atty. Lorna Kapunan to apply her accountability argument to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., saying in a statement: "So spare us the arrogance and the name-calling. A defense counsel does not become a bully simply because she refuses to let your accusations go unchallenged."35 She also said: "Evidence, not arrogance. Genuine accountability, not political persecution. Lorna Kapunan calling a defense counsel a bully is like calling David the aggressor against Goliath."35 Separately, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. pushed back on Duterte's claim that the Philippines is "becoming the troublemaker of Southeast Asia," saying the source of regional trouble is China and that what is in question is how a public official is allowed to enter into certain transactions.5982 A litigator, Atty. Howard Calleja, called the withdrawal of three articles a "worthy risk" and said the documentary evidence on unexplained wealth was strong.61
Emerging. Two developments point to where banking-sector attention may move next. First, the AMLC signed an information-sharing protocol with Mizuho Bank's Manila branch on October 12, establishing a framework for cooperation on detecting money laundering and terrorist financing — a signal that the regulator is formalizing bank-level cooperation while its own testimony is under scrutiny.54 A Rappler column argued that the appropriate response to Buenaventura's testimony is to examine the institution rather than demonize it.38 Second, the Mynt initial public offering closed its offer period on October 12 with brokers reporting oversubscribed allocations and interest extending to overseas Filipino workers.2122 The listing date is the next fixed event.17
Under-covered. Several items in the captured set drew little or no follow-on attention. Tonik Digital Bank's partnership with Robinsons Appliances, announced October 14 with a five-day installment promo running October 15 to 19, was covered editorially only by The Manila Times.2931 The bank's Facebook promo post drew 113 shares against 8 likes and 1 comment — a share-heavy pattern that suggests pass-along rather than discussion.29 Separately, Sun Life Investment Management and Trust Corp. said it will exit the trust products business, halting unit investment trust funds and transferring internal assets to Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc.55 And the Philippine Stock Exchange index fell 1.48 percent to 5,617.23, its second straight decline, as index heavyweight International Container Terminal Services Inc. dropped 6.59 percent.7798
Platform insights
- Facebook. The platform carried almost all of the day's measurable consumer-finance activity, and the pattern was consistent: aggregate or comparison content outperformed branded posts. The iPhone 18 Pro cheat sheet drew 119 likes, 63 shares and 38 comments, while UnionBank's own post drew three love reactions and one like with no comments, Digital Walker's drew 14 likes and 5 shares, and GameOne's drew 1 like and 6 shares.40394142 Tonik's promo post inverted the usual ratio, drawing 113 shares against 8 likes and 1 comment, which indicates readers forwarded the offer rather than discussed it.29 Two other finance posts drew minimal response: a page asking readers to check where their salary went in their e-wallet drew 19 laughing reactions out of 26 total reactions and no comments, and a GCash post promoting low-risk investments through government bonds under #GBonds and #GCASH recorded 6 likes and no comments.33 PDAX's post on a Cost Averaging feature drew 6 likes from 10 total reactions and 6 comments.34
- X. No posts from this platform appear in the material reviewed for this window.
- Reddit. No posts from this platform appear in the material reviewed for this window.
- YouTube. The platform carried the trial's video record rather than consumer discussion. Cabrera's October 12 testimony, his exchange with Escudero about intermittent fasting, and the senator-judge's remark that Cabrera was a "silver medalist" for testifying 10 hours against the AMLC chief's 12 all circulated as video clips.156 A business program on October 13 reported the Mynt oversubscription.21
Key voices and communities
Senator-judges and the impeachment court. Presiding Officer Francis "Chiz" Escudero ran the October 12 session and set its lighter tone, asking Cabrera whether he had eaten lunch.5 Senator-Judge Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan drove the questioning on the timing of Carpio's ₱41 million in withdrawals.7 Their framing matters because the senator-judges are also the jury: whether any of them names a specific bank in later testimony determines whether the story shifts from the Duterte accounts to the institutions holding them.7
The House prosecution panel. The panel withdrew three articles and rested its case, and its members have publicly called for the AMLC and the Bureau of Internal Revenue, the agency that collects taxes, to investigate the findings.10 Bicol Saro party-list Rep. Terry Ridon questioned whether Carpio considers himself an oligarch, arguing that supporting basketball teams is a justification usually reserved for big business players and does not explain large credit-card expenses.46 Lead prosecutor Gerville Luistro said she hopes the trial concludes before Christmas, while Manila Rep. Joel Chua warned it could run into February.35
The AMLC and financial forensic analysts. Buenaventura's testimony supplied the ₱4.4 billion figure and the caveat that the reports do not prove illegal activity.89 Cabrera supplied the ₱817.87 million estimate and the account-level detail: more than 30 active accounts across eight banks, ₱96 million in manager's checks, and two December 27, 2025 Nike store transactions in Davao City worth ₱93,750 and ₱205,392, plus another Nike store purchase in Kuala Lumpur of ₱256,882.50.2746 Cabrera said manager's-check conversions to cash still required declaration in Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth, the annual disclosure public officials must file.7
Retail investors and GCash users. The Mynt offering reached them directly through the app, with allocation available in real time at 100 shares.18 A member of the House panel on banks and financial intermediaries said the ₱6.60 pricing brings the investment closer to more Filipinos, and a separate lawmaker said the offering could boost the Philippine capital market.1516 GCash itself urged Filipinos to look beyond the hype and study the company's performance.20
Bank communications teams. The scheduled testimony of eight banks and one insurer put institutional communications in the position of explaining the difference between producing records under subpoena and being implicated in transactions.35 No AMLC enforcement action against any bank named in the records has been announced, and no bank has issued a public statement.7
Narrative streams
The impeachment case narrows to unexplained wealth, and the banks are next
The House prosecution's decision to withdraw Articles I, III and IV leaves a single charge that turns on bank records. Article II alleges unexplained wealth, problems with financial disclosures, and failure to comply with constitutional divestment rules, which require public officials to sell or transfer business interests that conflict with their office.3536 The evidence behind it is documentary: Cabrera's review of more than 30 accounts across eight banks, the AMLC's ₱4.4 billion in covered and suspicious transactions, and the ₱817.87 million in allegedly undeclared wealth from 2022 to 2025.23635 The AMLC also testified that CALE88 Foods Corp. received approximately ₱319 million in inward remittances from mainland China and Hong Kong, though records did not establish the funds came from the Chinese government.35
The read for the sector is that the reputational exposure sits with the banks whose client records are being examined, not with the accounts' owners alone. The prosecution has already named institutions in its witness list, so each bank whose representatives were called needs a holding statement ready before the defense begins on November 9.36 The distinction spokespeople must be briefed on is narrow and specific: producing records under subpoena is a legal obligation, while being implicated in transactions is an allegation, and the AMLC data concern the Duterte and Carpio accounts rather than the banks.35 The variable to watch is whether any senator-judge names a specific institution as the source of disputed records, which would move the story from the vice president's accounts to the banks holding them.7
The AMLC's own record comes under question as it signs a new bank protocol
Buenaventura's testimony carried its own limits. He told the court the AMLC's reports do not themselves prove illegal activity and that he had no personal knowledge of the accounts.89 Cabrera admitted that AMLC data did not appear in his report on the assets.37 A Rappler column argued that the appropriate response to Buenaventura's testimony is to examine the institution rather than demonize it, which puts the money-laundering regulator itself under scrutiny.38 Against that backdrop, the AMLC signed an information-sharing protocol with Mizuho Bank's Manila branch on October 12, establishing a framework for cooperation on preventing and detecting money laundering, terrorist financing and related financial crimes.54 Buenaventura said at the signing that such partnerships matter as financial-crime risks grow more complex.54
The read for the sector is that banks now face two parallel expectations from the same regulator: cooperate more closely on detecting dirty money, and be prepared to explain their own record-keeping if the trial turns toward institutional conduct. The information-sharing protocol gives the AMLC a formal channel into a foreign bank's Manila operations, and the same framework logic could extend to domestic institutions.54
Mynt's oversubscribed offering closes, with the listing as the next test
Mynt Inc., the parent of the e-wallet GCash, set its initial public offering price at ₱6.60 per share, valuing the deal at as much as ₱92.3 billion, and closed its offer period on October 12.121324 The company later clarified that an earlier reported price of ₱10 per share was never the planned IPO price.14 Retail investors could subscribe through the app for as little as ₱660, or 100 shares, with real-time allocation for GStocks PH users.1718 Brokers reported oversubscribed allocations, and interest extended beyond institutional investors to overseas Filipino workers.2122 Aequitas Research, an independent Asia-Pacific equity-capital-markets research firm, tracked the Philippine Stock Exchange-approved listing as a major regional event.23 If the listing proceeds at the announced size, it would rank as the largest IPO on the Philippine Stock Exchange.25
The read for the sector is that the exposure is not the share price but the platform: millions of first-time retail investors will interact with the market through a wallet that is also their payment channel and savings touchpoint.26 That concentration is an operational and reputational issue for every institution relying on the same cash-in and cash-out rails — banks, e-wallets and payment networks.26 GCash's own advice to investors to look beyond the IPO hype signals that consumer-education messaging will be part of the post-listing environment.20 The next fixed date is the listing, expected after the October 12 offer close.17
The central bank rewrites the capital rule for fraud and cyber losses
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas adopted the Basel III New Standardized Approach for computing operational risk capital charges under Circular 1241, dated October 9.56102 Operational risk covers losses from inadequate or failed internal processes, employees, systems or external events, including cyberattacks, fraud, human error, technology failures and natural calamities.92 The new framework replaces the basic indicator approach and the standardized approach for universal, commercial and digital banks, as well as their subsidiary banks and quasi-banks.5056 It requires banks to factor in their actual income and historical operational losses, and banks that fail to meet data quality requirements will be assigned a neutral multiplier of one, while those with significant internal-control deficiencies may face higher capital requirements.102 Full implementation begins with the end-December 2027 reporting period, when covered institutions must incorporate the methodology into their quarterly Capital Adequacy Ratio reports.50 Deputy Governor Lyn Javier said the framework recognizes differences in banks' business models, size and operations.50
The read for the sector is that capital planning for the largest banks now depends on data they may not have kept in usable form. The rule rewards banks with a robust historical loss database and penalizes those without one, so the practical work over the next year is internal: building loss records that can support the new calculation before the December 2027 reporting deadline.5092
El Niño and inflation put pressure on the rate outlook
Chinabank Research estimated that a severe El Niño could raise annual headline inflation by as much as 1.57 percentage points, including a second-round impact of 0.26 percentage point as higher agricultural costs feed through to other parts of the economy.49 A weak El Niño would add about 0.25 percentage point through direct price effects alone, while a strong episode could drive inflation faster by an estimated 0.66 percentage point.49 Actual consumer price growth was already 7.2 percent in September, above the government's 2 to 4 percent target.49 The research arm said inflation could peak in the last three months of the year and remain below 8 percent, but a severe El Niño could push it above that level.49 BSP Governor Eli Remolona Jr. said at an International Monetary Fund panel in Bangkok that the effect of El Niño will not appear until early next year and that policymakers must be prepared for the worst.80 The current event is a "Super El Niño" declared by the World Meteorological Organization in June, expected to peak between November and December and persist through the first half of 2027.80
The read for the sector is that the market is already pricing in another policy rate increase. The BSP's term deposit facility drew ₱116.441 billion in bids against a ₱100 billion offer on Wednesday, with the weighted average accepted rate inching up to 5.0061 percent from 5.0028 percent a week earlier, as the market anticipated a fourth consecutive tightening move at the central bank's review next week.56 Higher rates raise borrowing costs for households and businesses while supporting deposit yields, and the balance-of-payments deficit the BSP projects at $9.2 billion for 2026, or 1.8 percent of gross domestic product, adds pressure through fuel, transport and import costs.93
Consumer lending competition moves to retail floors and phone launches
Tonik Digital Bank announced a partnership with Robinsons Appliances on October 14, running an installment promo from October 15 to 19 with freebies for every approved and disbursed Tonik Shop Installment Loan, requiring one valid ID.29 The bank said the tie-up adds to a store network it puts at more than 2,500 locations nationwide.31 The Manila Times reported the partnership as a major addition to that network, without giving a figure for lending volume.31 Tonik's own materials repeat that it is a BSP-licensed digital bank, that accounts can be opened with one valid ID, and that deposits are insured by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation, the state agency that protects bank deposits, up to ₱1 million per depositor.293032
The same competitive logic showed up in the iPhone 18 Pro launch. UnionBank promoted a credit-card offer at as low as ₱2,596.94 a month at 0 percent installment for up to 36 months, plus a PayEasy feature allowing payment up to three months later for terms of up to 24 months, and scheduled a launch event at Uptown Mall in Bonifacio Global City on October 15.39 A Facebook cheat sheet listed 0 percent installment terms of up to 36 months for Metrobank and UnionBank and 24 months for BDO, RCBC, PNB, Security Bank, BPI, EastWest and HSBC, naming Beyond the Box, Digital Walker, Power Mac Center, The Loop and Digimap as the physical stores involved.40 Digital Walker advertised savings of up to ₱11,500, 0 percent interest for up to 36 months, ₱500 cashback plus a ₱1,500 e-gift certificate with UnionBank, and up to ₱13,000 in additional trade-in bonus.41 GameOne said the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max would arrive October 16 with 0 percent installment for 24 months through UnionBank or EastWest and payment options through Home Credit.42
The read for the sector is that installment lending is being marketed as a purchase channel rather than a product, and the comparison content is where readers are deciding. The aggregate cheat sheet drew 119 likes, 63 shares and 38 comments, far more than the single-bank posts, which each carried 14 or fewer likes and no more than 6 shares.404142 Whether any of this shifts card applications or spending is unclear; the posts show offer terms, not take-up. The terms should be checked against each bank's own registration and minimum-spend rules before being repeated, since Metrobank and BDO cashback is conditional.40
Digital payments and investment access expand through new partnerships
Filipinos moved more than ₱25 trillion through the InstaPay and PESONet systems from January to September, with the combined value of transactions up 45 percent from a year earlier to ₱25.3 trillion and volumes reaching 6.5 billion, up 124 percent year-on-year.57 InstaPay is a real-time digital payment system for transactions of up to ₱50,000, widely used for retail purchases, toll and ticket payments and e-commerce, and it has surpassed automated teller machine withdrawals in both volume and value since 2020.57 Separately, Philippine National Bank, through its securities brokerage subsidiary PNB Securities Inc., partnered with ATRAM Trust Corp. to expand access to investment products, combining the bank's client network with ATRAM's asset and wealth management expertise.7556 PNB President and CEO Edwin Bautista said the partnership broadens the investment solutions available to clients.75 Maya Philippines is looking to launch a Personal Equity Retirement Account product and is in talks with the BSP on the plan, according to Kristoffer Rada, head of corporate affairs at Maya Group.56 A Personal Equity Retirement Account is a voluntary retirement savings scheme that offers tax benefits to encourage long-term saving.
The read for the sector is that the distribution fight is moving to who can put investment and retirement products in front of customers who already hold a wallet or a payroll account. The InstaPay and PESONet volumes show the rails are already carrying retail-scale traffic, and the PNB-ATRAM and Maya moves show institutions competing to convert that traffic into investment balances.577556
A crypto platform faces a licensing threat over gambling flows
Coins.ph, a Philippine cryptocurrency platform, reportedly faces punitive action from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas over alleged transactions with offshore gambling operators, putting its operating license at risk.76 CoinDesk, cited by Asia Gaming Brief, reported that two people familiar with the matter said the BSP was pursuing the action, and one said the alleged infractions could warrant license revocation.76 Coins.ph said in a statement that it "firmly denies any claim that it knowingly serves offshore gaming or gambling operators," added that customer funds were safe, and said it expected affected services to be fully restored soon.76 The BSP had not responded to CoinDesk's request for comment.76 According to CoinDesk's sources, several gambling entities migrated to Coins.ph after the BSP ordered supervised institutions in August 2025 to remove in-app gambling links within 48 hours, citing concerns over consumers' financial health.76
The read for the sector is that the BSP's 2025 order on gambling links created a compliance boundary that crypto platforms now have to police at the transaction level, and the reported action shows the regulator is willing to test whether they did. For other platforms, the practical question is whether their onboarding and monitoring can distinguish gambling-related flows from ordinary transfers, because the consequence being discussed is license revocation rather than a fine.76
Conversation trajectory
Watch the November 9 defense presentation (observation window: November 9 to end-November). The defense begins presenting evidence on November 9, and lead prosecutor Gerville Luistro said she hopes the trial concludes before Christmas while Manila Rep. Joel Chua warned it could run into February.35 The signal to watch is whether defense counsel names a specific bank or challenges the provenance of the AMLC documents, since either would change which institutions need to respond publicly.
Watch the Mynt listing date and first-day trading (observation window: the listing week). The offer period closed October 12 and the listing is expected after that.17 The signals to watch are first-day trading volatility and any comment from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas or the Securities and Exchange Commission on retail investor protection, given the volume of first-time investors entering through a wallet app.2728
Watch the BSP policy review next week (observation window: the coming week). The term deposit facility auction showed the market pricing in a fourth consecutive tightening move.56 The signal to watch is whether the BSP raises the policy rate and how it frames the El Niño risk, given that Remolona said the effect will not appear until early next year.80
Watch the Tonik promo window (observation window: October 15 to 19). The five-day installment promo has a fixed end date, and editorial coverage of the Robinsons Appliances partnership is so far limited to The Manila Times.2931 The signals to watch are whether the Facebook post converts into store-level applications and whether outlets beyond The Manila Times pick up the partnership.
Watch the Coins.ph situation (observation window: the coming weeks). The reported BSP action has not been confirmed by the regulator, and Coins.ph denies knowingly serving gambling operators.76 The signal to watch is whether the BSP issues a formal statement or enforcement notice, which would move the story from a reported action to a confirmed one.
Trigger events. A senator-judge naming a specific bank in testimony; the Mynt listing date and first-day trading; the BSP policy review next week; the end of the Tonik promo on October 19; and any formal BSP statement on Coins.ph.
Response guidance
Bank communications teams whose institutions were called to testify. Prepare a holding statement for each bank whose representatives were called, because the prosecution has already named institutions in its scheduled witness list.36 Brief spokespeople on the difference between producing records under subpoena and being implicated in transactions, since the AMLC data concern the Duterte and Carpio accounts, not the banks.35 Monitor whether any senator-judge names a specific institution, which would require a faster and more specific response.7
Retail-facing banks and e-wallets preparing for the Mynt listing. Prepare a one-page talking-points brief on what the listing means for your own digital channels, specifically cash-in, cash-out and account-opening flows that may see higher traffic as new shareholders fund their accounts.26 Watch for any BSP or SEC comment on retail investor protection, since that would set the tone for consumer-education messaging across the sector.2728
Banks marketing installment offers during the iPhone 18 Pro launch. Check the terms in the October 14 cheat sheet against your own registration and minimum-spend rules before repeating them, since Metrobank and BDO cashback is conditional.40 Track the October 15 launch posts and the days after, because the single branded posts carry little engagement and the aggregate cheat sheet is where readers are comparing offers.4041
Digital banks running retail partnerships. Watch the Tonik app and Robinsons Appliances channels for sign-up or store-visit figures before October 19, since the promo has a fixed end date.29 Compare the share-to-like ratio on the Facebook post — 113 shares to 8 likes — against how your own installment-loan posts have performed, to judge whether this activation is drawing unusual pass-along.29
Compliance and risk teams at banks and crypto platforms. Track the AMLC's information-sharing protocol with Mizuho Bank's Manila branch as a template for how the regulator may formalize cooperation with other institutions.54 For crypto platforms, review onboarding and monitoring for gambling-related flows, since the reported action against Coins.ph concerns whether a platform can distinguish those transactions from ordinary transfers.76
Communications teams preparing for the El Niño inflation story. Prepare messaging on how higher food and transport costs affect household budgets, since Chinabank Research estimates a severe El Niño could add up to 1.57 percentage points to headline inflation and push it past 8 percent in the fourth quarter.49 Coordinate with the BSP's framing, which is that the effect will not appear until early next year and that policymakers are preparing for the worst.80
